Attitude to learning

At The Duke’s Middle School we understand that good behaviour underpins all successful learning and we are committed to further improving the behaviour of our pupils at every given opportunity using the formal house point systems and the more informal Class Dojo.

Behaviour for us is not just about how a pupil conducts themselves in a classroom, but also their social interaction with other pupils and teachers and the appropriateness of their actions in relation to their own learning.

It is also about deeper matters of attitude, ambition, motivation and belief, these being personal qualities and attributes that have a fundamental bearing on a pupil’s growth, development and, ultimately, success in school.

In our school we have developed a vision for behaviour that all staff are working to achieve. At the heart of our vision for good behaviour we place the 5R’s:

  • Responsibility
  • Resilience
  • Readiness
  • Resourcefulness
  • Reflectiveness

Staff will work consistently in all lessons to help all pupils develop all of these qualities so that we can all share in a school that has a positive and successful ethos.
