Federation Update
At a meeting on Tuesday 9th December the Governing Bodies of Lindisfarne Middle school, Alnwick South School, The Duke’s Middle School and The Duchess’s Community High School all voted unanimously to form a Hard Federation. Thank you to all of you who gave us feedback by returning consultation forms. The decision to form a Hard Federation has required a lot of thought; but the Governors and I feel that it is right for the young people of our community.
The next step in the process will be to establish a new Hard Federation Governing Body. Over the next few weeks each of the four schools will need to elect two parent governors. There will need to be open elections where any parent at the school can stand (not just those who are in post at present). I hope that when the request for nominees comes out early next term that some of you will give serious consideration to putting your name forward. Governors are vital to the operation of the school and we would greatly value your support.
Nomination forms will be available from school. The candidate, proposer and seconder must be parents of children on the school roll. If there are more than two candidates, a ballot will be held. In this event you would be approached and asked to write a short personal statement about yourself. If you are unsure of what would be involved and what the time commitment would be, myself or one of the governors would be delightful to ring you and have a chat.
The staff in school are looking forward to strengthening the good elationships between the four schools by working together more closely to continue to improve the opportunities for young people in Alnwick and the surrounding areas.
